There are 6,399 known species of mammal (Burgin, 2018), 427 of them live in the Amazon Rainforest (Amazon Conservation). Mammals are pollinators, seed dispersers, herbivores, ectoparasites, and carnivores. They are also some of the most charismatic animals in the world. Mammals are, of course, vertebrates, and it is well established that vertebrates, especially mammals, feel emotions, including the capacity to suffer. Because of this, deforestation not only means the extinction of important and charismatic animals but also the suffering of many animals.
